so a little goes a long way.

I remember the first time I heard about this product
, it was nothing but negative reviews. Nobody seemed to like it, it was too sticky, dried crunchy, didn't define or just simply wasn't worth the price for the results it gave. Since I was new to the whole curly hair thing, I stayed far away from it, but eventually my curiosity and product junkie-ism got the best of me and I just had to try it for myself. Now after using these 2 products for a few months, I've had a chance to build my own opinion on it and I think it's time that I give my two cents... *cha-ching*.

So here it is!

As most people would agree KC Knot Today is a very good leave-in/detangler that provides lasting moisture and great slip for combing through unruly tangled hair. It has a thick consistency but spreads very nicely over the hair so you don't need to use too much once the hair is very wet.
The KC Curling Custard is a true-to-be custard. Almost jello like. It's slippery consistency makes application very easy as it literally glides through the hair. It is very easy to be heavy handed with this product but the secret to this styler is "less is more".

Together these products make a dynamic duo. The KCKT prevents frizz, moisturizes and smooths the cuticle, while the KCCC provides definition, added moisture, elongation and shine. When used properly, application is a breeze. While applying the custard over the knot today, you can feel the custard & knot today working together to lock the curls in place. And you can see the results almost instantly.

In my hair, this takes a looong time to dry, the outer shell of course dries first and the inner layers take hours. On one occasion, I applied the KCCC to my hair then left for work; by midday  the inside of my hair was still wet and the definition wasn't as nice as it would have been if I diffused it due to all the moving around throughout the day. I recall having to go out on my lunch break and just walk around in the sun until my hair dried. So yea... Ain't nobody got time for that so I'll stick to using my beloved diffuser with this product.

Application:

Just as the owner, Shelly Davis suggests, the best way to apply the Curling Custard is on soaking wet hair. Not damp hair; soaking wet hair (lol, yes this may be a little messy). For me, this prevents the hair from drying sticky. As we know water weighs hair down, so by styling on very wet hair, you'll notice that this product does prevent some shrinkage. I've also noticed that I haven't had to use a lot of product, which results in nice lightweight bouncy, defined curls. Not crispy, crunchy, weighed down hair.
I like to do my hair in front a mirror so I can see exactly what I'm doing, so I always have a water bottle on hand in order to wet any areas that aren't wet enough. I part my hair in 4 sections then i make about 4 smaller sections within those to evenly distribute the product. Using my usual WnG routine, I apply the products to my entire head, then diffuse.

Overall:

I've been using these products for a little less than a year now and I've grown to love them. They've slowly become my go to if I need "perfect, defined, tame hair". I love that it keeps the hair soft, moisturized and defined for days. Even when rinsing out the hair, I've noticed that my hair still feels so soft and conditioned, that I don't feel a need to completely wash & start over. I could easily soak with water, rinse my hair then reapply these two. I'll admit this routine has contributed to me deep conditioning less often (I know, shame on me)... it just feels so good! ha! But seriously, I think that's probably why she doesn't carry a deep conditioner, her line provides enough moisture on its own and you don't really need it if these are the only products you use in your hair.

...Now, this is not to say that you shouldn't deep condition at all, because I'm sure you'll get even better results if you did, I'm just saying you could probably go longer between deep conditioning... again, I'm just saying...

It can take a little while to find the perfect way to apply these products, but once you do, it's smooth sailing. Give it a try, you just may love it... I know I do!
